The Cat-Guard

The night before Christmas, the cat was especially perturbed. The sounds from inside the wall were louder than normal, more insistent than before.

The cat yowled at the noises in the wall. As all cats, this one knew the dangers that could infest houses, and move unseen among the twolegs, causing mischief and disaster.

“I hear you,” yowled the cat.

“We’re coming,” whispered tiny voices in the wall.

“I’ll eat you up!”

“You’ll try.”

The cat considered this. And an idea formed.

So, when the creatures broke free that night, cutting their way into the living room, they found all the neighborhood cats lying in wait. For there is a reason why cats form colonies. There is strength in numbers against the dark things of the night.
